What I am doing now
– Non-profit agency for Single Women without children
Eight (8) months ago another woman struggling with alcohol
addiction came to the church and she is in need of housing, she has some income
but struggles with living by herself. She needs a more controlled environment.
My inspiration and burden for creating a homelike environment is even stronger
than before. Now the Lord has made it possible for me to start a non-profit
organization for housing hurting single women without children. The organization name God gave me is ‘On Eagles Wings 4UL” Isaiah 40:31. I am the
Director, President and Visionary of this non-profit organization. My
husband is the Treasurer, my pastors wife is a board member. She worked in a
supervisory capacity at Joy House and still volunteers there working with
hurting women. My husband tells me they have to turn away single women without
children on a regular basis and they are waiting to be able to refer them to
our organization.
My vision is to have a homelike environment for single women
without children where they can stay and be at ease that they have a bed/room
(share a room- 2 women to a room) where they can grow and we identify what is
hindering them from being self-sufficient and help them walk thru those issues
thru counseling, and have them participate in Christian Based Programs to get
them back on their feet again.
We wanted to have a home in the 15th alderman district not far
from my church, but we are not sure if that is the home God has for us. We
are leaning towards identifying a home to rent that perhaps was a group home or
facility that closed or a landlord that is willing to allow us to rent their
home for this purpose. Either way we are in great need of identifying funding
for these women to be able to pay for the living expenses of running a home and
staff to assist them in their healing and growth.
